The excellent policy offered under the Institute scheme, provides first-rate protection against potentially financially damaging claims of breach of professional duty against the business or individuals representing the business.

Some of the elements covered are:
  • Negligence or breach of duty of care.
  • Loss of documents.
  • Intellectual property: unintentionally breaching copyright.
  • Liability arising from dishonesty of employees.
  • Legal costs arising from defending a claim.

The minimum level of cover required for membership is £250 000. However, given the current economic climate and nervousness of some sectors of industry, and the demands of central government in particular, we have negotiated extremely attractive rates for higher cover, up to £3,000,000 in order to enable members to offer clients absolute piece of mind.

The Scheme is run by our PII Specialists Brokers - PFPS Ltd a partner of St James Place Wealth Management

Business Insurance

We have highlighted below several of the key areas of cover offered under this SmallOffice policy.

OFFICE CONTENTS AND COMPUTERS
This section of your policy covers your office contents, business machines, telephone and fax installations, photocopiers, computers and office furniture.

You choose the amount you're insured for, with five levels of cover from £7,500 to £30,000. Everything is insured against accidental loss or damage - this covers most risks including fire, explosion, theft or hold-up, malicious damage and water damage.

As long as you insure everything for full replacement value, all of these items will be replaced as new - your policy will pay the full replacement cost, regardless of how old the items might be. Accidental breakage of fixed plain glass in doors and windows is also covered.

What's more, if you do have to make a claim, your sum insured will automatically be reinstated following any loss, so that you don't have to worry whether you're still insured or not.

PUBLIC & EMPLOYERS LIABILITY
As a business, you have legal liability both to your employees and to members of the public. This section of your SmallOffice policy is designed to ensure that you can meet those liabilities to pay legal compensation if they arise.

Here's what you're covered for...

Employees
You're covered for compensation awards for bodily injury, illness or disease arising out of and in the course of their employment in your business. Anyone working for you in order to gain job experience is automatically included. Cover is for up to £10,000,000 for any one occurrence.
Public
You're covered for compensation awards for bodily injury, illness or disease or loss of or damage to property which arises in connection with your business and arising from trespass or nuisance. Cover is for up to £1,000,000 for any one occurrence.

This may be increased to £2,000,000 if required.

SmallOffice also pays all litigation costs and expenses when they're incurred with our agreement - as long you ask us in advance, you're covered.

Your policy also includes personal liability overseas incurred in connection with your business.

Please note that your cover under this section is in respect only of clerical work or duties. It does not include either products liability or professional indemnity insurance, both of which can be provided in addition to Small Office if needed.
BUSINESS INTERRUPTION
Loss or damage in the office can be bad enough, but the problems don't always end there - your business can be disrupted and extra costs incurred. That's why we've included cover for Business Interruption in your SmallOffice policy.

Here's what you're covered for:
  • If you suffer loss or damage that's covered under the Office Contents and Computers section, any additional expenses incurred in order to allow you to continue in business are covered, for up to 12 months from the date of any loss or damage.
  • And if damage to your office increases the cost of working - for example the expense of fitting out temporary offices, removal costs, higher rent and rates - you can claim back these extra costs under your SmallOffice policy.
  • Your policy normally includes up to £25,000 cover for Business Interruption, but if you need a higher level of cover it can be provide - all you have to do is ask.
LOSS OF MONEY
If you lose money - either yours or money for which you have accepted responsibility -
your SmallOffice policy covers you for the loss.

What's more, you're covered not only in the office, but for other money losses too.
Here's what you're covered for:

  • Up to £2,000 in the premises during business hours, in transit or in a bank night safe
  • Up to £1,000 in the premises out of business hours in a locked safe.
  • Up to £500 at the residence of a partner, director or employee
  • Up to £250 in the premises outside business hours, not secured in a locked safe
  • Up to £250,000 for crossed cheques and other non-negotiable items
This facility is available to members only and can be found in the member's area.

Life Cover

We've made it easy for you to protect your loved ones or cover your mortgage. And you'll get a great deal too.
  • You could get Life Insurance cover for £1m or more if required
  • Premiums could be lower than you think - for as little as £10 a month
  • We guarantee that your premium will stay the same for the duration of your plan
Choose the right life insurance - and get a great deal. The fact is, you can't rely on always being there for those who depend on you. That's why it's important to have the right sort of Life Insurance in place. Whether it's to cover your mortgage or provide a financial safety net for your loved ones, you can choose from our different types of life insurance to suit your needs.

  • Level Life Insurance
Our Level Life Insurance is a straightforward way to provide financial security for your loved ones, or to cover an interest-only mortgage. It's a Life Insurance plan that provides cover for the same amount of money for the duration of the plan.

It pays out if you die during the plan term, but there's no cash-in value at any time. It's one of the most popular types of life insurance and we guarantee that your monthly premiums will stay the same for the whole plan.

  • Decreasing Life Insurance
Our Decreasing Life Insurance is designed to provide the ideal type of cover for the outstanding balance of a repayment mortgage or other loan.

Because the amount of the mortgage or loan reduces over time as you make your monthly repayments, the amount your Life Insurance plan pays out will similarly reduce.

Premiums are set at the start of the plan to take this into account, so they're often cheaper than other types of life insurance that pay out the same amount for the duration of the plan. As with level life insurance, it pays out if you die during the plan term, but there's no cash-in value at any time.

What are the benefits?
  • Unlimited life cover in most cases
  • Choose the period you want cover for
  • Monthly premiums are guaranteed to stay the same

Legal Helpline & Support

This is included for full members as part of their membership fee. If you need to access this service please see link below (in the private members section)

Associate members can also take advantage of this benefit for the excellent rate of just £40 annual cover.
For full details of cover please click here >>

Membership cover provides a legal advice helpline and the legal costs involved in defending a claim, including tax investigation negotiations. It specifically covers the appointment of solicitors, barristers and expert witnesses, and charges for disbursements. We have secured the excellent services of Europe's leading legal expenses insurer and one of the UK's top firms of solicitors for your assistance.

In today's litigious society and work place, it is increasingly important to ensure that we have effective legal protection.

The Health & Safety Executive and HM Revenue & Customs are just two of the authorities imposing tight strictures on companies. You could face a prosecution as a consequence of your activities at work. or a claim for compensation under the Data Protection Act. The complexities of the UK tax system can prove a minefield for any company: any kind of tax dispute can take its toll on your resources.

The cost of dealing with even relatively minor legal problems can easily run to thousands of pounds, and this does not include the amount of valuable time wasted, or the acute stress caused by such matters. Recent research found that seven out of ten small to medium size businesses had neither an in-house solicitor nor a retained solicitor they could call upon in the event of a legal dispute.

Dr Jack V (Full Member)

"It's great to have providers listed in one place with a little explanation as to what they specialise in; saves trolling through a number of sites! Good idea also to have the name and title of the senior person who will speak to you"
